April Members Meeting - with Hastings Fishermen's Protection Society

For our April members meeting, we will be taking a trip over to Hastings Old Town to the Hastings Fishing Fleet, where we will be hearing from Yasmin and Paul Joy from Hastings Fishermen’s Protection Society.

Hastings has a rich history of fishing, with ours being one of the oldest fishing ports in Britain, but how many of you understand the importance of the fishing fleet and what it does locally? Supplying Hastings with its basic industry and main tourist attraction, the boats have worked from the beach for over a thousand years.

The Hastings Fishermen’s Protection Society preserves the fishing community’s medieval right to work from the stone beach (also known as the ‘Stade’) there are over 25 boats on the Stade, making Hastings fleet the largest beached-launched fishing fleet in Britain.

Compared to our usually monthly meeting, this one will be taking place on a Wednesday during lunch, with many opportunities to network throughout.

This meeting will take place at Rock-a-Nore. The price included in your ticket will cover lunch from Maggie’s Fish and Chips – our starting point. The nearest car park is Rock-a-Nore Car Park, which takes payment through RingGo. Alternatively, Hastings Train Station is a 25-minute walk away.

Please note: Maggie’s Fish and Chips is located upstairs, which may cause issues with accessibility for some, so bare this in mind. We will be taking a tour around the fishing beach and looking at the market so comfortable clothing with suitable footwear is suggested.
