The Hastings Town Centre Public Realm and Green Connections

Back in February 2024, we hosted a discussion between East Sussex County Council, along with Arup, who presented to Hastings businesses the plans for the Hastings Town Centre Public Realm and Green Connections project – one of the seven projects within the Hastings Town Investment Plan.

This project is one that plans to transform Hastings town centre, complementing its built heritage with multifunctional spaces that will encourage dwell time and promote wellbeing through the widespread application of ecologically rich and biodiverse horticulture.

Following months of planning, we are welcoming back the team from the project to further discuss these plans which includes:

  • The latest designs for the town centre which retains the two-way bus and taxi route on Havelock Road and Harold Place but with reduced carriageway width to expand the public realm space,
  • Segregated cycle routes on Harold Place and Robertson Street to increase the focus on active travel, a key project objective.
  • Designs incorporate easily maintained placemaking and greening throughout the town centre along with ideas for sensory play areas and planting.

The latest designs incorporate extensive feedback given during public consultation in January to March last year.

Join us to hear more about and discuss the latest plans.

This is a free event open to all businesses with an interest in these proposals irrespective of Hastings Chamber membership.
